Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home

KSA was hired to design and make additions to the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. The floor plan was developed around a pinwheel concept with the center point acting as the core of all circulation and activity in the building. The core features a display of military flags, plaques, and sculptures. This space provides an area for seasonal decorations or a path for a Veterans’ parade in the event of inclement weather.

Four wings of the pinwheel are dedicated to housing and caring for the Veteran residents. Two wings are provided for intermediate care, one for skilled care, and one for Alzheimer residents. An in-house pharmacy adjacent to the central core provides direct access to all resident wings. The facility features a total of 156 nursing care beds within 90,756 square feet. The additional wings comprise dining and administration facilities. Other amenities KSA provided include a large chapel, a library, day rooms, a multi-purpose dining hall, an arts and crafts area with a kiln, and a sports and game lounge.
