The Alexandria Housing Authority project is a combined development effort to provide safe, affordable, and green housing units to the citizens of Alexandria, Louisiana. The new housing units provide a high-quality, healthy environment for the residents, which is achieved through the use of low VOC paints, formaldehyde-free composite wood, linoleum and ceramic tile flooring, and the implementation of smoke-free buildings and units. The two-story apartment buildings will have two and three bedroom units. The basic building structure is a slab on grade foundation with wood framed exterior bearing walls. The floor structure is pre-engineered wood trusses with a gyp-crete floor surface. The roof is pre-engineered wood trusses with plywood decking and asphalt roof shingles. An exterior stair and steel balcony serves only the second floor units. The duplex units are the largest housing units available to the residents, offering three to four bedrooms and two bathrooms. These units are single story with a private yard and space for a future carport.
