Naomi Jackson Concepts

This site was previously home to a public housing development with over 270 units mixed in two- and three-story buildings. These buildings were demolished in 2006 due to age and safety concerns. KSA incorporated design elements from the existing context of the neighborhood that included connectivity to downtown, use of the city grid in the development, visible streetscapes, front porches, walkable pedestrian paths, and resident activity. These concepts ultimately put forth the idea of “people first.” The unit mix is designed to be market-rate driven with one, two, and three bedroom units available. Units are included that meet the needs of the elderly and individuals using wheelchairs. A community center is centrally located on the site and provides numerous amenities to the residents such as computer labs and a meeting hall. Public transportation stops were added.
