Streets & Drainage

Terrell 2004 Street & Utility Rehabilitation Project

KSA Engineers, Inc. worked with the City of Terrell to reconstruct eight city residential and commercial streets, totaling more than 12,300 feet of pavement reconstruction. Most of the city streets were reconstructed with lime or cement-treated subgrade, crushed stone flexible base material and asphalt pavement. One of the city streets was reconstructed with 7” of reinforced concrete pavement. All the streets required some form of drainage improvements, either by improved roadside ditches and culverts, or replaced curbs and gutters.

Before the streets were reconstructed, all the city water and sewer lines were replaced under this construction contract. More than 8,000 feet of gravity flow sanitary sewer lines were replaced, as well as more than 9,000 feet of water lines with numerous service re-connections. All construction within the street ROW had to be coordinated and sequenced to allow residents optimum use of their driveways and access to their houses.

KSA provided field topographic surveying and property surveying for easement and right-of-way acquisitions. The firm coordinated through a sub-consultant to obtain sufficient geotechnical investigations and recommendations for pavement reconstructions. KSA provided design, bidding, and construction administration services for the city and provided construction inspection services with an on-site project representative during the construction phase.

The construction of the project was completed within the contract time frame.
