American Heart Association Award

KSA Receives Fit Friendly Workplace Status through the American Heart Association

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. LONGVIEW, TX. On January 13, KSA was recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a Fit Friendly Worksite. KSA achieved the Gold level, the highest awarded by the AHA, by offering employees a Wellness Program through the American Council of Engineering Companies’ Designed Wellness Program. Supported by the firm’s leadership, KSA offers physical activity support, healthy eating options at work, such as fresh fruit for snacks, and promotes an overall culture of wellness. KSA publicizes the program through email communication and a dedicated page on its intranet site that features links to a variety of fitness discounts, health assessments, and communication vehicles.

Through the Fit Friendly Worksite program, AHA recognizes employers who go above and beyond when it comes to their employees’ health. It rewards organizations for their progressive leadership and concern for their staff. Requirements for Gold level achievement include implementing at least six of the physical activity criteria, two of the nutrition criteria, and one of several culture criteria. Employee resources, such as the AHA’s Activity Tracker, walking and exercise programs, and healthy eating resources; materials to promote the wellness programs to employees, including the free Worksite Wellness Kit from the AHA;  and a quarterly workplace wellness e-newsletter with content, allow employees and firms to monitor their progress toward contributing to and delivering a culture of wellness.
