City of Mineola Preserve High Service Pump Station

Preserve High Service Pump Station

This unique building is located on the Mineola Nature Preserve on the Sabine River. The construction of this preserve began in 2002 through the use of matching funds from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and other sources, and is maintained by funding from the City of Mineola. The Preserve offers over 20 miles of equestrian trails throughout its 2,911 acres in Wood County. Due to the high activity of equestrian visitors, the city requested that this HSPS building reflect more character than a typical concrete block building. The building is actually located adjacent to a portion of the equestrian trail and as such it seemed logical to replicate the appearance of a horse barn. The interior of the building includes individual rooms for the chlorinator and the fluoride feed. All walls make use of concrete block for durability while the exterior utilizes masonry veneer and fiber cement siding. Roof construction is a standing seam metal roof on a wood deck on light gauge metal trusses. The building is detailed with fiber cement trim to reinforce the contextual nature of the barn. A faux hay door is  provided on the end of the building and access doors are trimmed to resemble dutch doors. All materials were selected for ease of maintenance and to reduce the life cycle costs of the building.
